actually it doesn't. It shows premeditation and forethought. That isn't the sign of an insane person. Just a calculating one. He knew what he was planning. He knew that it was wrong
dont' confuse with not caring with being insane. James Holmes just simply didn't care.

Really. I think a lot of this cuckoo behavior can be traced back to all these drugs that have been dumped into children's brains while they were developing. Suicides too. But no it's all the fault of bullies.
OMG, yes! Too much sugar, not enough exercise, suddenly every kid is ADD or autistic or (insert imaginary illness here), and out come the drugs and excuses. And most of the dingy mothers are on either uppers or downers or both during pregnancy so the kid comes out already half crazed.
Holmes was supposed to be a stickler for detail and planning- He must have known that the mail would sit for a long time...It might have been an act to add insult to injury. Might have wanted the shrink to be freaked out with the "manifesto".....knowing if it was found early the deaths could have been prevented- This guy had a quick mind but a twisted one...the mail issue is not really relevant- we all know that.
No matter how smart a person is, regardless of how enormously high their IQ may be, it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to know for sure that a package they put in the USPS will not reach the addressee within a reasonable time. Unless Holmes personally knew the professor and knew that this professor was out of the country, or out of state, or for some reason would absolutely not be on campus, PLUS knew that the professor had not assigned anyone to the task of checking his/her mail, there was certainly a CHANCE that the mail containing the plans for the shooting at the Dark Knight movie would be found an would be read. Holmes may be smart, but as far as I can tell he does not have any ability to see absolutely into the future and know what is going to happen. He TOOK A CHANCE and put that information in the mail to the professor.
Why does that piece of mail make any difference? IF it had been delivered as most normal snail mail is delivered and the addressee (at an OFFICE, not at home) had read that mail, those 12 people may still be alive tonight. I think that is a significant reason why it makes a difference.

Guess what. A new article is out rebutting claims by Fox News that Holmes' package was delivered on July 12th. It was delivered this past Monday, AFTER the killings and the campus was evaluated. Now don't we all feel foolish arguing about an anonymous story reported by Fox without getting a second source to confirm the facts?
"'The anonymous Fox News source that the package was received on July 12 and sat on a loading dock is inaccurate,' according to the press release. The university said the 'suspicious package discovered at the Facilities Services building on Monday, July 23, 2012, was delivered to the campus by the U.S. Postal Service that same day, immediately investigated and turned over to authorities within hours of delivery.'"
