You are correct. It is a NE USA love affair. Also the 2 most poplular Kennedy's were assasinated. The others simply ride the coat tails of their dead relatives. How sad is that?
Irony is at its best when it comes to that clan. Money founded through illegal means, the 2 most popular were blatent womanizers, a clan known as much for its criminal activites as its politics.
Sounds like america's team the Dallas cowboys of the 1990's.
LOL! X-actly.
The Kennedys are a clan whose fame and fortune arose mainly from shady/illegal activity, and those of the current generation have never had real jobs in their lives! They're merely sponging off the family trust fund.
As a long time New Englander, I have never referred to the Kennedy family as 'America's First Family'. I know the Kennedy's where proud to be New Englanders' as I am, and what the regions has long stood for regarding human rights, education and economic fairness.
I am proud the Kennedy's are from here- but have never thought of them as this nations 'first family'.
Why do you we as American's allow this Family of crooks, thieves, murderers, liars and cheats represent us as the supposed "First Family of America?" Why does the media refer to them in this way. Obviously I’m well aware of their political contributions to this country, but does anyone else think that calling them our “Royal Family” is a little outrageous. The father was a bootlegging mobster who murdered tons of people and the son's turned out to be drunks, adulterers, crooks, murderers, and liars, so why do we refer to them as America's Royalty? They are an embarrassment to all Americans and I personally do not like the clan (with the exception of JFK he was ok minus the cheating on his wife).
The Kennedy's came to the USA first! Great-great-great-great-great-great-grampa Patrick O'Kennedy came to the USA on the great boat "Old Fitzgerald On The Rocks." This boat reached the New World five years before Columbus set foot here. The problem was that the Irish were so drunk they didn't realize they had found a new land and set sail back to Ireland before planting their flag! Anyway, this is why the Kennedy's are America's first family.
and so....I guess that YOUR family is all perfect?????????
The Kennedys have flaws....one is in Washington right now.....but the GOOD they accomplished far ourweighs the bad.....
In who's book? What is your definition of their good? and please site most of their bad? Last time I checked murdering people, running illegal operations, and raping were all bad and usually outweigh most if any good that you do!
Here's the Mass-hole that keeps flagging my post
Why are the Kennedy's... 10-12-2007 08:02 PM hateful, flame
It is impossible to convey to people in this cynical day and time how they made us feel - hopeful.
Hopeful? Of what? The U.S. would get to the moon? The French could rely on the U.S. to cover its' a$$? We'd someday win the cold war...? oh wait, that was Reagan.
I was a teenager then and the Kennedys didn't do anything for us, fiscally or spiritually. We did worry what the guy would do if the commies dropped an atomic bomb on us.
America's first family... it sells girlie journalism.

I concur with you skytrekker. The Kennedy's ain't perfect but in general they were better than what has followed them since.
LBJ got us into Vietnam though he did continue on with civil rights,
Nixon a crook but got us out of Vietnam,
Gerald Ford nice guy but ineffective,
Carter smart man but as a president inept,
Reagan probably help the the fall of the USSR but drove us into debt until Clinton balanced us again.,
G.H. Bush OK president but not inspiring,
Clinton pretty good president somewhat inspirational but ruin it all through personal vice. and really didn't change the the mindset of the U.S. much. He also didn't really unite the people of America either.,
G.W. Bush don't think his an evil man like some would like you to believe. But he probably going to go down in history as one of the most inept presidents ever to serve.
All these presidents that have followed JFK are to me are uninspiring and have not move America forward much.
Even if you still hate the Kennedy's and all there vices. You still have to admit that they did persuade and focus America toward common goals. The landing of the moon and the ending of segregation and civil rights were either initiated or help in part by members of the Kennedy family.

Some examples please? Please leave the cuban missile crisis out of it. Its easy to play poker when you know what the other guy is holding and he knows that you know.

They get a walk on may issues and all because of the assasinated brothers. No other politicians could hope to survive even half the scandles of these currently in office.
