No it is NOT better than zero. Geez! See what happens when those wealthy people move their assets to another country. Why the hell is that so hard gor libs to understand?

of course, we have clueless people here who actually want to pay more for an incompetent government that doesn't even address MAJOR fraud going on in this country:

As the court-appointed trustee seeking as much of Ponzi-schemer Bernard Madoff’s ill-gotten gains as possible to pay back his victims, Irving Picard has secured, according to a May New York Times report, $330 million to distribute. During the same time, Picard and his associates have billed the court (in fees that run as much as $850 per hour) $554 million. (The Ponzi scheme “earned” around $65 billion, but much of that consisted of the fantasy “profits” that had so impressed clients to invest with Madoff in the first place.) [New York Times, 5-29-2012]

just one of hundreds of stories out there, as the fraud escalates and the rewards to the fraudsters escalate.

it's just pumping more money into a black hole, where it disappears-and only the elite benefit.

again, what do you think the wars do? hell, now we are actively supporting militant religious zealots in the middle east, and that surely will end well, don't you think? if anybody wants to read an interesting "other take" on what is happening in syria, here it is:

Thanks for the link, and great post!

So what is their fair share in your mind? 10 times as much as you pay , 20 times?

In fact.....just put a large tax on all Obama bumper stickers, T-shirts, and other Obama paraphernalia.

We already know those who want higher taxes never put their money where their mouths are and cut and extra check to the IRS.

It's only FAIR that ALL those who think it's a great idea to pay higher taxes ought to actually DO IT!
This is a perfect illustration of the difference between the way liberals and conservatives think. It's the same as those posts criticizing Warren Buffett or Bill Gates for not just paying more instead of arguing for higher taxes for all rich people.

In each case what we see is that liberals recognize that we are all members of a society, and have an obligation to support the government and the benefits and services it provides to all of us. By contrast, conservatives like to think that the benefits and burdens are individual, so they think that taxation should be a matter of choice.

This is why President Obama was 100% correct to point out that everybody, up to the richest person in the country, got that way not merely by individual effort, but through the efforts and sacrifices of all of society.

You can start with those legions of one percenters living & around DC, most of whom voted for him in 2008.

Good idea. There are those who think more taxes are the solution to everything, why not set up a new tax that is all voluntary and let the liberals pay whatever they think they should pay into it.

So if someone didn't support the 3 trillion dollar Iraq war, can they get their money back?

You make an excellent point.

It's a shame O cannot actually come out and say it in this manner. His method was to say it in a way to push Americans further apart.

That is the full measure of his success. He has no real and tangible success to campaign on.

And to further your statement, how do the 'poor' fit in to it?

Is it their effort (or lack of) that got them that way? Did government and society get them that way? Or was it the rich that got them that way?
