The democrats have been hijacked by the liberals....

Kennedy did prefer the Egghead crowd.

Kennedy got America involved in VietNam with the help of his intellectual buddies.

Today Kennedy would be a Republican--gun nut & NRA life member, tax cuts on the rich('a rising tide lifts all boats'), staunch anti-commie. And Nixon would be a Democrat--favored a national handgun ban, created the EPA, installed wage and price controls.

In fact JFK would be well to the right of the average R today, and Nixon would be well to the left of the average D.

Actually "advisers" were being sent to Vietnam beginning in the Eisenhower Administration. Kennedy expanded such programs, but it was initiated under Eisenhower.

Eisenhower's advisers were working with the French.

Eisenhower was very much against foreign entanglements.

VietNam is Kennedy's Baby.

Like every Californian actually preferred Nixon.

You do know he lost the election for Governor in 1962. "You won't have Nixon to kick around any more" and blah, blah, blah.

Oh really? The French withdrew after their big defeat at Dien Bien Phu. Yes, I admit, Kennedy increased the "advisors" to 16,000. However, my point is that the original 900 "advisors" were brought there by Eisenhower. He started to roll the ball.

Kennedy was getting different reports from the military vs the non-military.
He actually planned withdrawal but after his death LBJ went along with the military report that we needed more troops.

May of 1963 there were plans to withdraw and withdrawals started happening in October 1963.
History Matters - Vietnam Withdrawal Plans

The 1990s saw the gaps in the declassified record on Vietnam filled in—with spring 1963 plans for the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces. An initial 1000 man pullout (of the approximately 17,000 stationed in Vietnam at that time) was initiated in October 1963, though it was diluted and rendered meaningless in the aftermath of Kennedy's death. The longer-range plans called for complete withdrawal of U. S. forces and a "Vietnamization" of the war, scheduled to happen largely after the 1964 elections.
