Recent Spate of Violence Against Gay People In Likely Hate Crimes
I don't like to see crime committed against anyone but i don't agree with "hate crime" I doubt anyone loves you as they beat the crap out of you, rob you or kill you.
If a crime is found to be motivated by hatred based on the victim's religion, ethnic background, sexual orientation, etc., then the criminal charges are enhanced. It's that simple.
It is unconstitutional at the federal level, but not with regard to the States. The federal government is limited only to those powers specifically granted to them by the US Constitution, which does not include hate crimes. States do not have that limitation. As long as it is not specifically prohibited by the US Constitution to the States, States and/or the people, have all the other powers.
As a gay guy myself I am sort of torn on this issue...I just go by what I see..Where I live a few years ago there were murders of Migrant workers...They were known to keep cash in thier homes...all the news outlets branded this as a hate crime etc etc I mean clearly they were targeting the hispanic workers..they broke into over 3 homes and murdered the migrant workers and stole all the cash..well when they caught the suspects they happend to be African american,then all of a sudden the media backed off the hate crime thing...well why?? they were clearly targeting the migrant workers..to me that constitutes a hate crime!! I really can see both sides of this issue.
Justice is blind.....unless you're part of a protected class.
Well, at least a recent spate of seemingly anti-gay hate crimes (all in the last week or so) are receiving media attention. Unfortunately, incidents like these are all too common:
Attacks like this have always been around, but with the new "in your face" behavior of homosexuals in public today, they were bound to become more common.
