In U.S., 5% Consider Themselves Vegetarians

According to this recent poll, just 5% of Americans are vegetarians, including just 7% of those who identify as liberals.

Liberals on the forum, are you vegetarians? Do you feel any guilt for not being a vegetarian?

Not a liberal, but I stopped eating red meat for health reasons, and ever since I took care of my girl's pet bird for a month I've felt very slightly bad about eating birds (chicken), although not bad enough to stop.

I don't feel bad about eating fish though. Fish are stupid. They deserve to die.

It's not good to be a conservative and a carnivore.

To be carnivorous means to eat meat only.....very unhealthy....

Best to be an omnivore.........

I'm a flaming liberal, I'll eat red meat about once a month, either in a upscale hamburger made from sirloin sorry no Nebraska reheated frozen patties for this guy or a steak. The reason I don't eat it more often is I want to live longer and red meat studies show that it lowers your life span. Also since I am older my body doesn't digest it as well, so I am happy to eat vegetarian if I can.

Language is your friend, OP.

I am an OMNIVORE with limited meat intake for both health and moral reasons. I will only eat meats that a) I could slaughter myself, b) is raised ethically (not factory farming) and c) is not treated with antibiotics and hormones. That means that my choices for meat are very limited and also are too expensive to indulge in often. I stick to fish and the occasional chicken.

As a conservative I only eat meat and I only eat the meat of animals that have been tortured to death.

The "carnivore" comment was a JOKE...LOL.... I know that no one eats only meat. Chill, people. This is supposed to be a lighthearted thread.

Anyway, most liberals I know do eat meat, but the only vegetarians I know (or at least that I know well enough to know their political ideology) are hardcore liberals.

There are all types of vegetarians. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian. I believe this to be the healthiest diet. I don't do it because of animals but because it is healthier, although not having the guilt of slaughtering animals is a good thing.

It is a relatively new thing for me. I am getting older. It is never too late to start eating healthier.
