It gave its message, and maybe outstayed its welcome and attracted a lot of those who would trivialize it for the sake of exhibitionism, but there's just no need for it anymore. Now they're just backing what horse they want elected. It was never going to merge with (or hijack) the Democrats the way the Tea Baggers did with the GOP. It ran out of steam. Elections are more important, but some are probably some cynics either not voting or backing an "ideology" candidate and go for Ron Paul or that badass who climbed everest with a broken leg, whatever his name is.
The Occupy Movement started out of outrage over risky Wall Street practices that caused an Economic recession in this country. The bailouts that the government orchestrated were designed to keep the big banks in business so that our country's financial sector wouldn't collapse. After the bailouts were given (tax free dollars for the banks and investment firms), many top executives then bonused themselves excessively with taxpayer money.
The bailouts themselves were large enough sums of money to put us trillions of dollars in debt.
The Movement was also about removing money from politics. It was about returning the power to the 99%. I believe the statistic is that 50% of the country holds only 1.1% of the wealth. Income distribution (or lack there of) has caused a shrinking middle class and caused hundreds of thousands of Americans to go into death. With consumers unable to consume, and our jobs outsourced to other countries, our unemployment rate is the highest since the depression and our businesses can't keep their doors open. The protesters were wanting to raise awareness and to stand up to those who they viewed responsible for the whole crisis.
Occupy has morphed into a lapdog of one of the major political parties.
Sort of a younger, fitter, smellier Tea Party.
