How come there are no Occupy Wall Street protests in 2012? The gatherings died during winter... But did new laws prevent these events? Were too many people being arrested or whatever?

Because most of the protesters are too lazy to even effectively protest for long. It was fun for a while; now it's time to go back to living in a park bush or in their grandmother's basement.

Too lazy? They were physically removed from their protest. Some beaten and charged unjustly. I'd say that's a far cry from the movement simply dying out due to laziness.
A protester I know from my hometown is working as a carpenter and offering his services for free to those in need. A far cry from someone lazy.
They still exist, with reduced numbers. Repression from the powers that be as well as divisions within the movement have taken their toll.
This.
From the frontlines, it seemed that the welcoming of all groups ended up hurting the movement. By allowing all groups into their camps, they let in some undesireables who made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Some news stories were fabricated, and some were accurate, but all in all, it turned the PR game against the movement. The media was effective in their message.
The beatings, trumped up charges, and prolonged detainment also lead to people not wanting to protest. Your financial well-being can be ruined by an extended jail stay.
There's more movements organizing though. I've heard of one where an entire industry might be taken over. It's gonna be an interesting year I believe.
