I would say traditional American is more along closer to Puritan family values,which are different from Catholic family values.

No. I left any distinct country out for a reason. This isn't limited to just American values - if you're not American and have something you'd like to input, by all means do so.

This, I thought someone did a poll asking what religions people were on C-D and Catholic was first or almost first.
3) Acceptance (for the differences that each family member might have, barring illegal differences of course)
4) Friendship (I believe families should be held together by more than a feeling on obligation. My family also consists of some of my closest and dearest friends)
1. Mom stays in the kitchen where womenfolk belong; gets smacked around and ridiculed if she tries to speak up and "get smart."
2. Dad spews sexist, racist, xenophobic, religious dogma over dinner; kids are expected to ingest doctrine without question.
3. Kids grow up to become boors like dad or submissive pushovers like mom, suspicious of anything resembling change from the narrow sliver of life they have bee indoctrinated to treat as "normal". They inflict the same tripe on their kids.
Fast forward a few hundred years until someone in the family lineage has the brains and the balls to put this bull**** to an end.
