We need to leave the middle east the hell alone. Let them sort their own crap out.
Back in 1857 a speech was given to congressmen at the US Capitol
advocating the US foster war and revolution to destroy the monarchies
of Europe, especially the Russian monarchy, and replace them with
American-style democracy.
The first 1917 Russian revolution was democratic and was supported
and praised by President Wilson in his 1917 war speech [WW1, the war
"to make the world safe for democracy." ] Later that same year, the
bolsheviks took over.
So you see, US democratic nation-building is not new and it's not ending,
without intervention.

I'm not saying support or fight.
I'm in line with men like Washington, Jefferson, and Madison. Its none of our God damned business one way or the other.
The Syrian Christian community is one of the oldest in the world.
Syrian Christians support Assad, who is Muslim.
They fear the radical Muslim opposition who has already targeted and killed Syrian Christians.
.
While I feel terrible that they live in such an unstable part of the world, perhaps those Christians should have urged Assad not to kill so many people for no good damned reason?
At any rate, its none of the United States business, one way or the other.
In war and revolution, many times innocent factions get caught in the crossfire. I'm certain it would be in the US's best interests to see continuing stability by a secular government in Egypt, Tunisia and Syria. A benevolent, secular dictator would be in our best interests than an extreme Islamic faction. But that is not the case. We don't know what will finally happen in any of these countries and what their status will be in the future but we didn't meddle. We let the will of the people run it's course. You didn't see us proping up Mubarik, Assad or whoever the guy was in tunisia, even though we had stability in those nations.
Someone once said that Revolution is much more brutal than War as people kill each other rather than some percieved enemy of their nation.

The very idea of the United States, is that when you give free people, a real voice, that with time they will do whats best for everyone.
Thats our legacy, if there is one. This 220 year experiment that we are will live or die on that one simple theory, that free people make better decisions then dictators.
It isn't always pretty, it may not be what you expected, but its always a better outcome then dictators.
Sorry, but al Qaeda wasn't, sponsored, funded and certainly not created by the west. It was created specifically because the west was sponsoring, funding and otherwise guiding the Afghan Mujahideen.
You are correct. The Carter Doctrine was in play back then to not let the russians take over the persian gulf or anybody else. Couldn't have anybody trading oil in non us dollars of course even the great peace loving jimmah. We funded insurgents in pakistan and afghan to fight the ruskies. Jimmah gave Pakistan a pile of money to train the mujahadeen (however the hell you spell it) and boycotted the Olympic games in russia too. I believe the chinese were in on that one too among others after all they didn't want russia moving in on the gulf either.

2008 China was paid back, when Russia and Georgia stole their olympic show.
Like the ancient Babylonian empire, nation-destroying to rebuild something inferior seems to be the USA's " Manifest Destiny. "
.
Hmm, the American empire compared to the Babylonian empire. Well, God used the Babylonians, Egyptians, Assyrians, etc to punish the peoples of Israel and Judah whenever they turned their backs on Him, which was often. So perhaps He is using America in similar fashion?
