It depends. There are a lot more conservative Democrats than there are liberal Republicans.

Any lopsided house in Congress creates lots of problems of their own device. When both houses are around 50/50, things get done because there are a lot who can find enough agreement to meet in the middle. The congressmen who do this best and most often are often those who tend to veer toward either end of the spectrum to meet their own philosophy while thinking of their constituents. The least able are those who only vote along party lines all the time.

Look, the Democratic party has cut spending and raised taxes. I know you don't like this, but you should look at a trend line of federal spending and see reality.

So it has happened.

And it happened again with ACA which increased taxes and cut 500million from Medicare only with the votes of Democrats.
This is a joke, right?

How would such a make-up of our government affect the United States after, say, two presidential terms like this?

I think America would more resemble this town...

Berkeley, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am certainly no fan of the Republicans, but let's get the facts straight about this imagined Democratic utopia.

I see your Berkeley, and raise you a crime / poverty ridden Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, and on and on....

Crime:

1. Flint, Michigan – Dayne Walling – Democrat
2. Detroit, Michigan – Dave Bing – Democrat
3. Saint Louis, Missouri – Francis G. Slay – Democrat
4. New Haven, Connecticut – John DeStefano, Jr – Democrat
5. Memphis, Tennessee – Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. – Democrat
6. Oakland, California – Jean Quan – Democrat
7. Little Rock, Arkansas – Mark Stodola – Democrat
8. Baltimore, Maryland – Stephanie Rawlings-Blake – Democrat
9. Rockford, Illinois – Lawrence J. Morrissey – Independent
10. Stockton, California – Ann Johnston – Democrat

Poverty:

What do the top ten cities (over 250,000) with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

1. Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961
2. Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected one since 1954
3. Cincinnati, OH -(3rd) since 1984
4. Cleveland, OH -(4th) since 1989
5. Miami, FL - (5th) has never had a Republican mayor
6. St. Louis, MO - (6th) since 1949
7. El Paso, TX - (7th) has never had a Republican mayor
8. Milwaukee , WI -(8th) since 1908
9. Philadelphia, PA -(9th) since 1952
10. Newark, NJ -(10th) since 1907

In my opinion, our country works best with divided government. Preferably a Democratic (yet moderate/centrist) President and a Republican controlled Congress.

That is going to be some big cuts!

Default A steep rise in the progression would result

Not hampered and dragged down by the collosal ignorance and bigotry that is at the heart of the cluelesss Conservative agenda, this society would experience phenomenal growth and prosperity. A cure for diseases lik Alzheimer's and Cancer would likely be found.

There would be far fewer Mitt Romneys, and millions more Gabby Douglas's.

I would rather have a Libertarian controlled house and senate and a democrat controlled potus, but with a veto override ability from the house and senate.
