His premise is that Christians have done something awful, otherwise why would you have to BEG for forgiveness. The only time I could say anyone begging for forgiveness is if you did something really really bad.
Yes - a Christian is a sinner(all of us are sinners) who has confessed their sins, accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and savior, and seeks to do his will to the best of their ability.
A Christian confesses and accepts forgiveness for sins daily - because we all fall short of the glory of God - and apart from Him can do nothing - but through His grace and the power of His spirit, we can do all things.
So, I agree with Reed. He is saying that this election is important - and that we need a strong revival of faith to ensure a successful outcome. What has happened is that many Christians have failed to put God first and are letting other things get in the way of fully living for Him.
I am guilty of that.
I posted the call to prayer and reflection - "Heal our Land" above. For other Christ-followers I submit this song that talks about keeping the focus on Jesus. I think that is what Mr. Reed is asking us to do.
Nothing nutty about what Ralph R. said. It's OUR fault, the christians, the believers, that the country needs healing and cleansing.
If I were the unbelievers and watching folks like myself I'd not want anything to do with Christ and the mostly-hypocrites that are called by His name, either.
Our bible nails us for this one. It tells us something like, the gist, not a claimed quote, "If My people who are called by my name will humble and turn from their wicked ways, then will I heal their land."
If god gave a damn about who was running the country, George Washington would still be the president.
Unfortunately, there is no god so we get bipedal hairless alpha-apes as leaders instead.
George Washington had his faults and he acknowledged that he was less than perfect - that is why he declined when the early Americans wanted to make him their king - he understood that God was our king.

Apparently Ralph Reed and others are getting funding from the Koch brothers and other big GOP doners to do more than "beg for forgiveness"..........who knew the Koch brothers were big supporters of god, and obviously those "begging for forgiveness" are not planning just to rely on those prayers and forgiveness from their god to see their political agenda "win."

Since some religious institutions are becoming so interested in how our government works, maybe they should think about "donating" say...35% to the "cause"? If some churches were forced to pay taxes if they try to influence the shape of government, maybe we would see less of this silliness and intrusive politiking.

But why is the "election" key to spreading faith and restoring your own belief? It should be completely the opposite. You should be trying to spread faith and fixing "belief" issues with the least amount of government influence as possible!
