Democrat admits, ‘Attack on parental rights’ is ‘the whole point’ of banning sex orientation therapy

The author of a California bill that would forbid minors from seeking therapy to overcome unwanted feelings of same-sex attraction has admitted his intention was to undermine parental rights.

The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill, because we don’t want to let parents harm their children,” said State Senator Ted Lieu, D-Torrance.

Senate Bill 1172 would ban anyone under 18 from receiving reparative or sexual orientation conversion therapy, even if requested by the teens or their parents. The bill would label the treatment “unprofessional conduct” and “therapeutic deception.”

...
After likening the therapy to allowing children to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol, the 43-year-old Taiwanese-born legislator said, ““We have these laws to stop parents from hurting their kids. Preventive therapy hurts children, so this bill allows us to stop parents from hurting their children.”

Isn't there a thread out there that ask why conservatives bash California? Here's exhibit A.

Liberal politicans know better than parents what's best for their kids. Amazing stuff here.

Where's the bill the stops liberal politicians from hurting society?

If the coastal strip of California became its own state (from L.A. to Eureka), then the rest of California would be spared from the illness that is liberalism. CA rivals some European countries in just how bat**** insane they are. In fact, I don't think there is a European country that's as crazy as CA

The notion of "therapy" to stop being homosexual is completely idiotic, but I don't know that a bill is needed for this.

It is a bill to prevent sexual conversion therapy, which has been proven to be junk science without any benefits and actually can do harm. This is admitted by early conversion therapy proponants and even people who used to practice it.

The spin that it's "anti parential rights" is akin to saying it's anti-parential rights to ban locking your kids in a closet for a week. I don't really know what else to say...anyone have proof this can help and NOT HURT as all the experts claim?

I don't think parents' rights need to come into it, I think professional organizations simply need to start yanking the credentials and license of any therapist or clinician who would participate in something as medieval as trying to 'cure' homosexuality.

If the parents want to have some moon-faced preacher pray over their kid, that's still their business.
