I'm looking for an open, honest discussion that explores the question thoroughly. Right now, over 50% of black youths are unemployed. Far more of them are on government assistance now than when Pres. Obama took office. Many of them are in disagreement with Obama's recent decision to come out and publicly support gay marriage: http://townhall.com/columnists/starp...e_sex_marriage
Going back even further, many of the Dems' plans (specifically LBJ's Great Society) to lift blacks out of poverty have not worked; instead, they have had the opposite effect. In 1963, it was a Democratic governor who stood in the schoolhouse door to prevent blacks from going to an Alabama school; while in 1957, it was a Republican president who sent federal troops to force Central High in Little Rock to integrate. The Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Acts of 1965 and 1964 were vetoed by Democrats in Congress, mainly because Republicans had voted for it.
Here are my four reasons/hypotheses for why blacks continue this trend:
1) Government Jobs: Many blacks have found upward mobility to be possible with the help of government jobs. These jobs have been made widely available to blacks through quotas, affirmative action, etc., and a very strict non-discrimination policy. This could possibly be part of the reason many blacks side with the bigger-government Democratic Party: more government jobs means more black jobs.
2) Habit: Many blacks continue to pull the lever based on what they've always done in the past.
3) Southern whites: possibly because of the great shift in American politics in the late 1960s, when southern whites began to vote overwhelmingly Republican, blacks stuck with the Democrats and used the party to further advance their agenda. In the wake of the civil rights movement, they couldn't bring themselves to vote alongside those who had attempted to stifle their civil rights.
4) Money: Blacks continue to vote Democratic because they're the party that gives them the most stuff. Higher taxation, higher spending Democrats are more likely to funnel cash through housing, welfare, public assistance, EBT, etc.
Most black folks favor equal rights and know what it's like to be demonized by politicians who look for scapegoats to whip fearful (white) folks into a frenzy, unfortunately the same tired card still trumped out by most Republican politicians these days.
Now why don't you explain to me why the lesser-educated, poorer whites continue to vote Republican when those who they elect give kickbacks to their rich friends, further widening the rich/poor gap in this country?
2) Habit: Many blacks continue to pull the lever based on what they've always done in the past.
That might get you close to an understanding that would answer 'why do blacks continue to vote for Democrats?' Sure, voting Democrat is a family tradition. Dem candidates are what they hear. Dem candidates speak their language. Those Dem candidates don't come to my neighborhood to campaign. They proabably don't come to yours either.
Blacks may go to the same schools we know but many are less successful. They may shop at the same grocery but their supplies basket doesn't look like mine. And many of them don't pay by the same method. The ones we see don't normally do the same jobs as most white folks. And they certainly don't get paid the same.
They go about their lives next to us but they live on a completely different planet. Or perhaps, in a parallel universe. I'm not making excuses for Blacks or trying to denigrate the race. I'm genuinely pleased when they succeed in their efforts, the Olympics a good example. Or the achievement of any personal goal. But many of them lead a hard life at home, and that's after spending a day wading through an ocean of white crap.
Then of course, there's always the unwitting victimization by revisionist history.
The problem with being a solid one-party people is that the one-party can take you completely for granted.
The democrat politicians aren't even bothering to make promises or any effort -- back when they were busy trying to win the hearts of blacks they did - but now they have their undying unquestioning devotion there is no need.
There may be 50% unemployment for black youth but a million new work visas for foreign youth because there's a new and bigger minority group to pander to.
Better question yet is why do so many white people vote Republican? You barely have any hispanics or blacks in the GOP to begin with. The last GOP convention was so white that you couldn't tell if you were at a KKK rally! Let's face it , the only reason Rubio is even considered for VP is to pander to the hispanics in Florida.

Thoughts?
Here's what you do. Think about why you support whatever political party or policies that you support and just apply that same reasoning to black people. It is very easy. You don't have to invent reasons.
