Actually, wrong.

He graduated from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, somewhere near 5th from the bottom.

The reason we can know his class rank is not because it has ever been released or published. At the service academies until the late 1970s graduates were assigned their graduate numbers (at West Point we call it the Cullum number) in order of graduation rank. So just looking at the Annapolis Register of Graduates you can more or less figure it out.
