Because as I stated earlier, I've known families who have been through this - and in their cases, the child did absolutely nothing wrong. So let's just use this letter as a metaphor, and try to discuss the REAL issue at hand! Do you think it's okay to disown a child solely for being gay?
Where is the dad's side of the story? Please quit if you don't have it I wont pass judgment without both sides of this story.

I guess the son anticipated his father's reaction because he broke the news to him over the telephone.

Something he knew he couldn't possibly do face to face with his Dad.

As impersonally and informally as he informed his father, that informality was reciprocated in the handwritten note.

It's quite clearly stated in the letter.

I do have a moral compass, which is why I'm not hateful bigot. The religious right doesn't have a monopoly on morals.

Yeah, no kidding! The lack of morality shown by the right on this thread is clear, and reminds me why (even as an Independent) I refuse to associate with conservative "values." *cough cough*

There's really no way for people to define morality on any of these threads because one's view is going to be clouded and shaped by their own personal beliefs.

One person's morality doesn't necessarily have to agree with what you believe is moral.

They're opinions.

No it actually is not, that's not a side to a story, that is a letter saying not to come around anymore, it does not explain anything. I wont bicker over this fact.

I disagree, but that is irrelevant. Again, let's just use this as a metaphor for what actually happens to many gay people... can you stop with the "we don't know both sides" nonsense, and just address my earlier question? I'll repeat: Do you think it's acceptable to disown a child SOLELY for being gay?
