Well, considering I haven't watched television for more than 10 years myself, I totally concur with your assessment. (I don't read newspapers either, except to check out the obituaries). LOL

Books are INFINITELY more enjoyable. I have a huge library, and I add to it on a regular basis.

Sounds like a good plan.

If you think about it, most of the news we read or hear has very little impact on our everyday lives. So why do we care? Why do we allow ourselves to stress out about some random guy shooting up a movie theater hundreds or thousands of miles away from us?

I used to marvel at my sister-in-law's ability to compartmentalize her life. She has no idea what's going on in the world and so she remains blissfully ignorant. This could be why her family is so happy and well-adjusted. They don't allow the media to intrude on their lives and well-being, nor do they allow the media to take time away from the family and warp their value system.

I used to be a news junkie but as I've gotten older I've learned to tune out the endless dysfunctional news cycle. I sleep much better now.

I don't have cable and don't want it, but I do watch DVD's and shows on netflix once in a while. I agree that not having cable is very refreshing.
