He needs a permit. Anytime you try to sell food you need one. He's no different than anyone else just because he has a good cause.
The part where he was fined for his efforts of raising money for vets. He was fined for breaking rules relating to food service, whether he was raising money, keeping the money, or doing it for free is inconsequential.
They really should consider adding forum guidelines about deliberately lying in thread titles, it has become quite pervasive around here.

So the title of the thread is entirely accurate - if the kid hadn't put out any effort - then the city would have left him alone.
It seems like a valid public health issue. He was selling hamburgers to the public without getting the proper health inspections done to help prevent a risk to public health due to food born illness. It is a problem which is easily solved by a visit to the county administration office.

Yes, the kid sold hamburgers, which requires a license if its prepared. Unless he sold them uncooked, which I doubt, a permit is needed and has been needed pretty much everywhere for like 20+ years..
The fine is to because he didnt get the permit, the permit is to make sure its all prepared properly.. You cant be having this much trouble following along..
And it was a lie, whether YOU wrote it or MSN. He wasn't "fined for his efforts", he was fined for not getting the permit. The reason you do something doesn't exempt you from the fees required to do it. The city council paid the fee for him so all is well and nothing to see here.

The fines are to insure people selling food to the public take a course in safe food handling and preparation to prevent food born illness. Such classes are typically ~$40 and can be finished in one day. After that he can apply for a special use permit to sell prepared food to the general public provided the cooking location passes a public health inspection. Yes, this is actually a valid public health issue as more people die from food born illness world wide than from anything else.
It's an easy fix so why are you so upset?
