Calling Fareed Zakaria GPS an intellectual is a bit of a stretch. That brow is set firmly in the middle.

I actually rather like Fareed, which is why this really surprises me. Why would he copy it? I could understand borrowing bits and pieces from memory without the intent to plagiarize, but his paragraph was a little too word-for-word for me to believe that that was the case. Weird.

Far Leftist Fareed Zakaria Suspended from TIME and CNN
Newsbusters caught him in the act of plagiarism.
And this isn't the first time he's been exposed.....
The Atlantic remembers that Jeffrey Goldberg accused him of lifting quotes from Goldberg’s own interviews with Israeli officials. And just yesterday, Michael Moynihan — who caught The New Yorker’s Jonah Lehrer making up Bob Dylan quotes just two weeks ago — noticed that a sentence in Zakaria’s column on China in the May edition of Time reads a lot like a sentence from a Time story on China published in 1968. If he were a lesser name, he’d probably already have been canned.
Time suspended him for a Month and CNN indefinitely.

A paragraph? Who cares.
The job used to be reporting the news now they make the news. Too often a false statement is made in order to further an agenda when they shouldn't have an agenda except to report the news. But heaven forbid one doesn't put quotes around a paragraph and cite the source.
I don't like the guy and the companies rules are theirs to make, good or bad. Were his ratings were down?

He should have been fired and not suspended. He knew better.

That is ashame because anything I've heard him report, was not nearly as biased as some others.

Wrong. He's actually very much a centrist. Not that this excuses what he did.
