So, if you haven't heard, the Chevron plant in Richmond had a huge fire a few days ago. Pretty bad, I understand, nobody wants a big plume of smoke in their neighborhood. But, here's what made me angry.Yesterday, there was a freaking line around the claims building for people trying to get money out of this. Here's one of the quotes:

"It's disappointing," said Gallon, a 61-year-old Richmond resident who said he lived out of the area when others received payments of about $1,000 each after a fire at the refinery in the 1990s. "I want in on this one."

Opportunistic low lives is how I feel. I'd like to think I'm not racist, but the truth is almost everyone in line was African American. Honestly, I lean to support Obama. But, I saw this and it was like a microcosm of a bigger picture. People looking for any hand out they can get, any free money they can get without working. Welfare, lawsuits, etc. If you had a job you wouldn't have time to wait 6 hours to have a opportunity to get $100 from Chevron. I'm ranting at this point, but, what do you think?

Clearly, you have a problem with race. You connect black Americans with wanting a handout. Amazing, they suffer a disaster that will cause many of them to be ill and you don't want them to seek compensation because of the color of their skin. That seems to be the only objection. The stuff about wanting a handout and welfare is just your justification for your bigotry.

Go to Richmond, then come back and talk to me.

The best thing that could happen to Richmond is a 9.0 earthquake.
It would cause billions of dollars in improvements.

Ok and what does that have to do with someones property being damaged or their health being damaged by the fire?

Translation Sam Barrow can't deal with the substance of what was written, but it bothered him so much he felt he had to respond. This was Sam Barrow's best effort.

Roffle. I leave more substantive statements in the toilet. Your typical liberal crap deserves no response.

I live not too far from Richmond. What the media doesn't tell you is hat asthma rates are about 5 times higher in Richmond than anywhere else in the Bay Area. This fire was pretty serious, but they have these "shelter in place" days every other year because of air quality issues. And of course, every couple of years there has been a similar fire. The soil in many parts of Richmond is also contaminated. There are several local non-profits focused on strategies to clean up your soil so you can have a backyard garden.

Chevron hasn't been doing a good job at addressing the air quality issues in Richmond, as they get the "big company exemption."

And if the air quality wasn't a problem, why doesn't Chevron have its headquarters near the refinery? There is plenty of space and it is cheaper. There is even attractive space on the waterfront where other fortune 500 companies are located. But Chevron's headquarters are about 30 miles away in San Ramon.

This fire was more serious than ones in the past, since it impacted some of the affluent nearby areas, and they also had shelter in place orders (East Contro Costa County and the Oakland Hills.) I live in the "Oakland Foothills" and I couldn't smell anything or see any smoke, but my friends in nearby towns did have issues.

People aren't looking for a handout, they are tired of their concerns being ignored for decades. Maybe you should move near a refinery and see how you feel.
