A rather dumb question since it really doesn't matter how one feels about it......it's unsustainable right now no matter how much you like it....something's GOTTA be changed or it will cease to exist completely. To deny that FACT is just deluding yourself.

Bottom line: It's a ponzi scheme that was based on the premise that most people would die before they could collect. We live longer now, there are less workers compared to beneficiaries, we've added all kinds of extra people to the rolls via SSI, and it's going broke. The sooner people realize that the sooner they can prepare for their own future.
Yes.

The minimum age MUST be raised. Dramatically. It's been done before. The world didn't come to an end.

Amen. Quite frankly anyone who wants no changes today is for ending SS within a few decades, so they must hate SS.

I'm just 15 years from my official SS age, so it would be safe for me with NO changes, but unlike most, that is NOT close to good enough. There is a moral obligation involved so that those in the generations after mine are not shafted on my behalf.

Those of us with parents or grandparents from the Greatest Generation recall how much focus they had on bettering the country for the future, and how little they focused on themselves. We have inverted that focus.

Not broken? Yes, it is broken. And we ALL have to take some pain to fix it. I'm willing to do so. If you're not, then don't complain when the whole thing goes belly up. At least Ryan is willing to have a conversation about saving SS. Some people just want to keep their heads in the sand and ignore the problem.

Remove the cap on earnings.

Up the retirement age.

Raise the SS tax.

Reduce increases in benefits for well off seniors.

Put the money in a fund of its own, not the general fund. Stop the "borrowing" of funds by the government.

Please don't try to say that it is not so. Ryan has been prolific in his plan to dismantle social security and medicare.

Democrats are the party that created social security and the Republicans have been trying to get rid of it from the very beginning.
I am against it because it is one of the things making us broke, not the only thing, mind you...but in it's current form, it ain't happening.

The fact is SS just takes a little tweaking. Medicare and Medicaid cannot exist in their current form without massive tax increases.

Yes, most things that aren't financially sustainable ARE popular. We all want something for nothing, or at least something for less than we've put in. That IS our fatal human flaw. Some people at least recognize it. Most others only notice this flaw in other people but never in themselves.

True. SS is an easy fix if politicians are willing to tell people the truth even if it costs votes and people are willing to stop denying that changes are needed.

Medicare/Medicaid are a much bigger issue. And one that won't be easy or cheap to fix.

What do you think collects Social Security today, do you think it's just for people over the age 65? If so, you'd be wrong, our government has vastly expanded social security way beyond what it was intended for.

Are you aware that Social Security is unsustainable and will in a few decades?
