I was on business in Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin last week. Those states put the Southern states to shame in terms of well run, beneficial governments.
I would leave Illinois out of that statement, but you are correct, the Upper Midwest soars ahead in terms of comprehensive quality of life measurements. One of the first things you notice as you leave the Upper Midwest and head South is how dirty everything is, figuratively and literally.

So here's a poll. Discuss.

Who the hell cares what one ignorant Northern liberal thinks? This is going to be a thread for the ignorant here to bash the South while sitting in their trailer somewhere in the North.

Dunno about a formal "secession", but would agree that a lot of the current tensions and issues have their basis in stubborn cultural differences between "the South" (plus the "sons of the South" who've since relocated to other areas), and basically everyone else. And IMO, much of that was really started by Reagan, the famous champeen of "states rights" and the "Southern Strategy", all of which was later reinforced by Karl Rove's infamous "culture wars".

In many ways, I think it's not too dissimilar to the ancient ethnic divisions that were exploited by Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, who helped foment discontent between the Bosnians and the Serbs, groups that had previously co-existed peacefully for several centuries.

I really wouldn't go there if i were you....seriously, just avoid the whole trailer thing altogether if you're from the south. I mean, treat it as if it were a rattlesnake because that's one you can't POSSIBLY win!

Yea drive from Chicago to St. Paul and experience clean, scenic, well built highways. Drive from Dallas to Oklahoma city, and get potholes, billboards, dilapidated mobile homes, and junk yards.

Go Texas!.....LOL

That idea would have merit if you actually believed federal monies actually "helped." I believe, in a majority of cases, the monies are wasted at best and harm those it is intended to help at worst.

Hell, the question assumes that all southerners feel the same way, and getting 2 Americans in ANY location to agree on anything is worse than herding cats.

It's a silly proposition all the way around. That said, i wouldn't cry if they split so long as my beloved Arizona remained firmly a part of the United States.
I believe mexico has plans for arizona so that doesn't matter. In regards to borders, I want em'. I say this even tho my wife is from mi. Arkansas would be better off without most of the northerners and californians we have around here.
