"The Electronic Privacy Information Center posted a brief and detailed notice about the removal of a petition regarding security screenings by the TSA at US airports and other locations. 'At approximately 11:30 am EDT, the White House removed a petition about the TSA airport screening procedures from the White House 'We the People' website. About 22,500 of the 25,000 signatures necessary for a response from the Administration were obtained when the White House unexpectedly cut short the time period for the petition. The site also went down for 'maintenance' following an article in Wired that sought support for the campaign."
As much as I might agree with the spirit of the petition, it went down on the date it was always scheduled to do so. The fact that it didn't get the 25,000 signatures has nothing to do with that.

BS the normal time was cut short to avoid a flood of signatures. It was starting to gain traction in the media THATS why they cut it short.

Nope, the politics tab over at reddit had its collective knickers in a wad over this until it was pointed out that the deadline to reach the 25,000 signatures was August 9.
Also, http://http://www.schneier.com/blog/...orders_ts.html From that link: "If we get 25,000 by August 9th, the government will respond. I doubt they'll capitulate, but it will be a press event that will put even more pressure on the TSA."
