We've been doing that since the country's inception. So what?

That's got nothing to do with the "melting pot" theory.

Sure it does.

We haven't "melted" because of people who think their race/culture/religion is absolutely superior to the "nasty disgusting low-life cultures."

As a country, we have been engaging in systematic discrimination from the outset, and people point to the effects of those actions and argue that minorities refuse to integrate into society, when the reality is that they're not welcome to integrate, and some people's idea of "integration" is "you must become exactly like me, right down to the color of my skin."

It was only a few days ago that we had a thread on C-D in which people were attacking Indian immigrants for not all going to McDonald's.

And now we have multi cultural conflicts in countries all over the world because of it.

Salad bowl does not promote unity; it promotes diversity which in turn promotes segregation and division.
Looks to me like it's working.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Our PC government and politicians are trying to break down that unity aka the melting pot and turn it into a salad bowl to divide us along cultural lines. I have no problem with immigrants retaning their cultures and languages at home as long as they assimilate out in mainstream America. That however isn't happening by too much immigration and in particular from illegal immigration from mostly one ethnic group. A country that loses it's core identify loses it's soul.

LOL...ok, well i can't argue with you there. You just put it more succinctly than i did.

It's funny how some white people talk about "melting pot" as if they've made any more effort towards it than everyone else. You've got people on here saying that "we used to be a melting pot." Really? When was that?

Some people have a strange (and revisionist) view of America when looking at the nation in hindsight.

I well also add that many of the cultures and various groups that we have in America don't want to adopt American culture and values, are either here solely to reap the rewards and have no pride in this country, and or want to impose their cultural values and morals on the rest of the country.

America = Big Caesar Salad Bowl

Look no further than your fellow liberals and their putrid ideology if you want someone to blame for this travesty.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't agree that all cultures are nasty and disgusting but everything else you said is right on.

Ok...so now i'll ask you the same question:

When was this nation a melting pot and when were we unified? Give me the years.
