Ok, that was funny.

But I can say that my father rarely has to crap out in the open in Uganda. And even when it does occur in the open, there's always brush to hide in.

That being said, he got septicimia within 4 months of being there.

Septic systems require water that they do not have, and they also pollute the water table.

Do you seriously not know what the term "open defecation" means in the article? It means taking a crap where there isn't a sewage system. It doesn't mean out in the open open.

You really think people in Uganda are gonna take some green machine toilet and recycle all the poop into nitrogen and clean water or whatever else this magic bucket does and create this happy little utopia there? They are starving and most care about their next bowl of slop to fill their belly not how to green up their poop.
Good lord. They have food in Uganda, though definitely limited in terms of volume and variety. Better than some countries in Africa.

I don't see anything special about it. It sounds so cool to some of you because it has the word "solar" in it -- but you can make a composting outhouse for about $150.

Outhouses don't. Septic tanks don't pollute the water if you build them right. Especially where there isn't much water.

Yeah and most of em will flip it over and sit on it while they try and catch some fish from the Nile river. It may come as a shock but I doubt many folks in Uganda give a crap about the green movement. They are trying to live till tomorrow.

This is an advancement of the composting toilet - it certainly is a type of composting toilet. To me the special part is the water purification system that also produces usable hydrogen (from sunlight and table salt!!!).

I guarantee they care an awful lot about clean water and sewage treatment (you know, wishing they had either).
