I can't count the number of times I've heard this statement from gay people. If the GOP/conservatives fully embraced gay marriage, adoption, the whole 9 yards, and threw out the religious right influence, how many gay people would be in the conservative/GOP camp? Call me crazy, but methinks the GOP could win the gay vote if they adopted a socially liberal/fiscally conservative platform.

Yes, but they would lose part of the blue collar vote.

I am a Goldwater Republican but I recognize why Reagan was able to win and Goldwater lost in a landslide.

maybe, but then they may lose marginal voters who oppose SSM.

In the UK, the Conservative/Liberal coalition has virtually legalised SSM - so it will be interesting how the next election there pans out.

I agree. My gay friends are actually fairly conservative on a lot of issues--except social issues, of course.

But they would lose their entire Nutjob base, and effectively commit political suicide.

...no, not necessarily. The RR really has nowhere else to go, unless if they run off and form their own third party, but those rarely last, and the faction is just too big to settle for never-winning-a-major-election third party status, but too small to take the presidency or congress by itself.

But I personally have never met a conservative gay person. I'm sure they exist...

Gay Republicans

Its my belief that gays dont want the issue to go away, and neither do politicians.

Gay marriage is a legal one, not policial. Why they havent gotten it in front of the Supreme Court, I'll never understand. The only rational explination is by delaying a Supreme Court hearing, it allows them to continue to play the victim, and I say this because I fully believe the Supreme Court would deem gay marriage legal and mandate it across the nation.

It actually took a lawsuit to remove DOMA, while Democrats like to credit Obama with it, its simply because they are uneducated.

You think gay people are the ones "slowing" the constitutionality of gay marriage bans being heard before the Supreme Court? That's ridiculous.

Bit of history: Us gays tried as to get it heard at the US Supreme Court in 1972, but the Court refused to hear it. Can you name the case?
