The Mississippi River is vital to American commerce.

The drought of 2012 has put the Mississippi River level to an historic low,
affecting those who depend upon the flow of the Mississippi River.

Already barges that carry food and other necessities must carry lighter loads
[30% to 40% lighter] and some barges have run aground halting river traffic.
