The west doesn't have to explain anything. Those lefties who daily criticize US foreign policies, while being extremely forgiving and "understanding" towards countries like China or Russia should. Hey pal the United States at that time and even now back and train right wing governments and their death squards that kill innocent people in Latin America, there is more blood on the hands of the United States than anyone else.
What you call Communist guerrilla groups were mostly innocent people fighting back against right wing dictators that were backed by our government.
I don't know about that, I don't think the US would go to war with China over Taiwan. It's possible that China isn't willing to make that gamble, but my guess is that China knows it can have Taiwan any time it wishes, and Taiwan knows it too.
I am not suggesting that US should go to war in each and every conflict. If anything, the opposite is true. America should not fight wars, our presence should suffice to defuse most conflicts. Without US presence, things in the far east (and many other locations) would have been different. That's what these screamers ("war mongering crowd") do not understand.
