But, EO 13603 gives wide latitude to the Executive Branch in declaring a national emergency and managing it directly from the White House. Obama's propensity to circumvent the Congress re: amnesty for illegals, making non-recess appointments,..etc.,... makes one wonder just how far he will go. Gaining power incrementally is a trademark used by many oppressors.
No, it absolutely does not make sane people "wonder" if Obama is going to cancel the election in November.

Fun Fact: EO 13603 is just a restructuring of powers already given to the President by the Defense Production Act of 1950, delegating them to specific Secretarys (Energy, Ag, etc.). All of those things you were talking about, those were already in effect and this is cited throughout.

Although there were wartime powers acts in place since the advent of the Cold War, those have now been concentrated in the hands of the White House and Homeland Security. Many of the EOs that existed during previous administrations have been renewed/amended, and included in EO13603 and subsequent EOs as noted in the refernces in the link.

Obama, or any president, having that much power may make you sleep better at night. Not me.

I'm guessing that now the thread will die and quietly slip away.

OP -

Nothing would please me more than to see President Obama reelected with a veto proof majority in both Houses of Congress. We could then get on with implementing the progressive agenda and bring this country firmly into the 21st Century. Being able to name four new Justices to the Supreme Court is worth all of our efforts.

I do apologize for the link posted. It seems that I misquoted the figures regarding Executive Orders. The author said the Obama had "offered" 900 EOs, not signed that many. So, my quote was incorrect.

Also, those EOs attributed to prior presidents were either renewed/amended to fit into later EOs signed by Obama.

Sorry for the confusion.

The problem with your socialistic viewpoint is,....at some point you will run out of someone else's money.

Good luck with all that hopey/changey crap.

Tried to rep but the powers that be won't let me (yet). You've brought up some points worth considering.

"We could then get on with implementing the progressive agenda and bring this country firmly into the 21st Century." ? You mean,

We could then get on with implementing the progressive agenda and bring this country firmly into the third world.

That IS where he wants to take us. Are you going to be happy when you get there, or will you be looking longingly over your shoulder to what America used to be, and is no more.

I think ignorance is bliss, but doesn't last forever.

However, it is good to know where you get your fear of Obama stopping the election...American Stinker. (The below is one of the last three "sentences" in the opinion piece). It's also noted that you right "leeners" have a pattern of ignoring posts with questions for which you have no logical answers; is that the way of the far-right leaners out there, ignore anything which threatens their rigid view of the world? lol
A reminder seems to be in order, as some here have forgotten the purpose and function of the Executive Order. It was intended to be used sparingly, and in cases of emergency when there wasn't time for Congress to go through the motions to deliberate and vote.

Our current President uses the Executive Order to go around Congress to get what he wants.

Incredible misuse of power and we let him get away with it. Congress should be outraged.
