I don't think it's particularly "whiny" to ask someone to stop using something you've created to promote something that is antithetical to everything you believe.

All an artist like Linda Ronstadt needs to do is make it known that they despise Republicans and fundamental Christians, and ask that they do not go to their concerts or listen to their music. This way they would not have their enjoyment clouded as they performed their music, only to find out some of the people they despised were in the audience or buying their CDs.
I just wish these hate-filled bigots would have the courage to speak up and let their hatred be known, before they took everyone's money and became rich and successful, instead of waiting until they were a washed up warm-up performer that only sells music in the discount CD bins at Walgreens.
Linda Ronstadt:
“This is an election year, and I think we’re in desperate trouble and it’s time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It’s a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I’d rather not know.”
