My question is, why is the pharmaceutical companies in trouble? Why don't they track down the physicians that are overprescribing it???????
A lawsuit filed by Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo and Pike County officials demands millions in compensation from drug maker Purdue Pharma.

[Because they lyed to the doctors about the safety of oxycontin and told them it was the most safe and NON-ADDICTIVE narcotic anelgesic medication on the market! The doctors in turn was only looking out for the patients best interest!! THEY PLAIN OUT LYED FOR PROFIT!!!quote=TNTransplant06;1651147]My question is, why is the pharmaceutical companies in trouble? Oxycontin has given relief to many suffering from acute or chronic pain. Purdu pharm has given millions of people the required relief. Why should they be responsible for the addicted who will find a fix regardless if it is with oxycontin or other drugs.... when someone drinks and drive and someone is injured, do they sue the beer makers? What a crazy society we live in..... There will always be people who will over indulge and become addicted, maybe they should also sue "Dunkin Donuts" for all the overweight people who require extra medicare, etc....
kabfon have you or a member of your family ever been given oxycontin? Purdu should have warned doctors, they should have done more tests, this is human beings they were marketing medication for, not toys. after finding out how addictive the drug really is, and being warned by the FDA why didn't the recall the drugs??? I am not a person who went to find a fix as you so put it, I was under a doctors care for spinal problem, over 2 years, started out 20mg a day went to 160mg a day for the pain, it was my decision to get off the drug when I discovered how addictive it was from a brochure in gyn office. believe me the relief you say Purdu so sweetly and out of the kindness of their heart gave me was not worth the other side effects I suffered, or the withdrawl I went thru, two months after getting off of oxycontin I still need help walking, doing simple hygenic needs for myself, still weak, having breathing problems, in other words if you don't know nor have experienced what this drug can do to normal people not just the drug additcs, fat people, smokers or any other group you look down at, then you should take the age old advise, don't speak until you have walked a mile in our shoes.

Big Pharma is being sued because the researchers for these companies did not release all of the findings about the high probability of addiction to Oxy Contin. The drug companies have a window of time to get all research, development, trials and approval by the FDA before another company can make a generic of the drug...where do you think the companies are going to skimp.
If a drug company can make $500million and get sued for $10-20 million, they are still making out like bandits.
Yeah, make it harder for people to get pain killers after surgery, or with cancer, because some get addicted. That makes real sense.
This is not about taking it off the market...the drug company has "supposedly" reformulated Oxy Contin nad will still have high powered relief and be targeted for cancer and ortho patients, but without the highly addictive qualities.
Honestly, I am not worried about people who are in chronic pain becoming addicts as long as they are not in pain, but this drug has been poorly prescribed by physicians and the potential for abuse is very high for people who do not need it to function. It also has an outrageous resale on the streets.
Just more of the same--blame the gun manufacturers when someone gets shot. Blame the pharma company when someone gets addicted.
Such a nanny society nowadays. No personal accountability.
What a shame.
I am in a complete and utter agreement with this statement. We live in a nation where personal accountability does not exist anymore.
