Yes. It's like the helmet law for motorcyclist. It might be a good idea to wear one. It is definitely not a bad idea, but yet the decision is given to or not to, to the motorcyclist.

The only way I knew there was no longer a law in place for helmets to be warn, (in Texas) is that I saw motorcyclist with out them on. Which personally I thought was dumb, but...to each his own. It is after all his/her safety and their decision on what they think is best for them.

Run that past your officer friend and see what he/she thinks. Because I think it is just another way for the states to make money and extra work for the ticket writers.

We have collectively stopped thinking as a society. We're going through a major shift and this will be the 1st time it'll be documented live, all across the world.

Even the clerks knew it was a scam when I went in to pay the ticket. This very day, my friend's wife went to court and said almost half the people in traffic court were there for seat belts. Are we labeling these people as the next group of criminals??

You do not have the right to drive in this country. While you may agree with some laws and disagree with others, they are all there in the name of safety and the facts back it up, I am sorry if you don't like facts.

I never wear my seatbelt. It's my choice. I've also never been given a ticket for it.

The only thing criminal I see going on is the state is making a boat load of money off some rebellious folks. These officers they know. (storm is brewing so I may loose power; need to go to bed anyway) Most don't really care for this part of their job. I know for a fact some will let you slide, because they see it too.

The officers, most are just trying to do their job and unfortunately until the law changes, enforcing the seat belt law is...a part of their job.

It's like the car insurance law. The law was established because of the insurance lobbyist that got up in the face of the judges to get the law put into place so as the insurance company could make more money off of repeat, and soon to be licensed drivers. The state too, makes the money off the poor smucks that get behind on their insurance payments. Again, police officers, ticket writers, must write the tickets or loose their job.

It's all about money, nothing else. If you think it's about safety or about compassion for saving lives, then too much credit is being given to money hungry law makers of our states, who sit around and go...how can we make a buck and get the people to open their wallets? But, we need for it to look like we care about them.

Just stop. Your essentially telling me I don't have a right to drive because I'm not wearing a seat belt. You sound ridiculous.

I agree with you. It's sickening. To those who are wealthy, or even middle class, it might not mean much. To those who can't afford to miss out on any cash, or to miss out on any work, its essential.

The good thing is I believe the population is trending in the right direction.

Wrong. If someone hits your car and causes it to roll over, and you are ejected and smashed onto the pavement, because you are too stupid to wear your seatbelt. It's going to cause harm to that person who hit you, both mentally and financially.

I have no sympathy for anybody who gets a seatbelt ticket. Its just stupidity, not wearing a seatbelt. Over 85% of the drivers on the road wear their seat belts. If you can't manage it, then you have a problem.

OTOH nobody should get a speeding ticket. They are just revenue generating. Everybody speeds. The cops just pick out whichever driver they want to give a ticket to. Thats not the case with seat belt tickets.
