The states in the middle of the country are "paid" to "not" grow food. The mid/center of this nation only plants just less of a quarter of what they could plant (while still saving the ground) because the government doesn't want the price of a loaf of bread to go below a dollar ..
Once the old government is gone, the states will once again farm .. and gawd forbid .. actually grow food.
We'll make a killing on it too .. we'll more than make up any old government losses by selling the food to you guys on the coasts ..
LOL no you wont 150 years of economics shows that economies that are dependent on farm prices are weak and volitile.
Texas is barely able to break even in terms of money. There is no way they would be able to support their northern neighbor of Oklahoma much less any of the rest of those heavily dependent states. The East Coast mega-city and its 20%+ of all American economic activity in a tiny area is the only thing keeping them afloat.
Middle of the country has all of the food and the oil.
According to the map .. 20%+ in those mega cities of yours would be starving to death.

Uh, first I live in NC which is part of the new GOP paradise, though I would likely move. Secondly, you assume that massive economic engine would have no other trading partners besides you, which is stupid. The east coast cities generate massive amounts of wealth and have some very high capacity ports. What is to stop them from buying food from the southern cone, and fuel from Venezuela, Europe, Brazil, Russia, and the Mid-East.
Once more that hot mess in the middle of the country is going to need a market and without the trade favoritism they get by being merged with purchasers on the coast they will likely hurt even more.

Yeah, until a big drought hits. Then all the "gubmint is bad, keep your feds out of my fields" red state farmers line up with hands out, looking for USDA aid!
The "red states" would sell their food to the east coast, because they would need to have SOME semblance of an economy. Nonetheless, with the end of farm subsidies, perhaps food grown in other parts of the world can suddenly be imported and compete in the "American" market!

The middle of the country is in a state of drought; many farmers have given up on their corn and plowed it under, while the soy beans aren't far behind. Corn syrup is used for thousands of non-edible products and even more foodstuffs; the country will be hard hit this winter, as prices will be astronomical. If this is a harbinger of climate change and not a climatic anomaly, the country will be in major trouble, as will the countries that depend on our corn and other crops.
Are you afaird those blue states really can't support theirselves without the red.
Eating tofu & veggies would probably get very boring.
I like the map except Colorado seems like it should go to the west america, they have much more in common with the blue state California.
It is the reverse. Red states are screwed without the blue. Blue states will get along fine primarily with international trade, red states dependent on blue state markets and subsidies will likely go down in flames. The first things that will go will be farm subsidies and medicare medicaid since the red states will not be able to afford them the immediate result will be an astounding jump in poverty. While diminished east and west America will still have the overwhelming majority of trade, manufacturing and skilled labor.
When push comes to shove we'd have to make it and if we know we have to do our selves at least these farmers know how to work. They work much better than those that have lived a life of welfare and food stamps. We'd be doing alright!!!

Yeah and they will be producing what a crop that is devalued, unsupported and has few markets. They will be exactly like farmers in the rest of the world sans Europe and heavily urbanized East Asia both of which employ the same generous price supports New America could no longer afford.

Although the yield will be lower, it will still be quite large for both soybeans and corn. A 5 and 6-year low respectively, but not catastrophic.
