Janet Reno (IDIOT) ordered it because she heard children were being abused, she had no proof, but she wanted to be a hero and save the children. As a result, almost everyone was killed, including most of the children she was trying to save, when some moron FBI or ATFE agent made the genius decision to fire tear gas canisters into an all wooden structure. This whole thing could have been settled in a more peaceful manner and it was the government to blame for all of these deaths, including their own.
Reno may have ordered the final attack that resulted in the Davidians being killed, but she did not order the initial assault on the compound. She was not Attorney General at the time of the initial raid.
None of the ATF agents were "murdered" by the Davidians. Murder is the unlawful taking of a human life. A jury of their peers acquitted the surviving Davidians of any charge of murder. It was self-defense.

After it went horribly wrong, CYA went into high gear and decision making went straight to the top. IMO It was not meant for anyone in that compound to live to tell their side of the story in a court of law. The entire compund was bulldozed flat the folowing day to prevent any private investigations. Everyone dead, no evidence, no problem.

Also, the ATF had just completed training with Delta Force just nine months before the initial raid. Delta Force was present at the raid, but only as observers. The FBI was responsible for the coverup. So in the end we had the Dept. of Defense, the Dept. of the Treasury, and the Dept. of Justice involved in the Waco debacle. Waco ultimately contributed to the historical GOP victories during the 1994 election.
I have never understood the fetish that some right wingers have for Weaver and Ruby Ridge.
He did sell the illegal weapons and his friend and son had shot and killed a LEO already. The Weavers had refused to turn themselves in and were known to be heavily armed.
If Randy Weaver had been a black guy, living in the projects and LEO was trying to arrest him for selling drugs to an informant and he had pulled the same crap by refusing to surrender and shooting at cops would the right wingers still feel the same way?

A white supremacist with a long history of violence and criminal activity who moved into an Aryan Nation compound in northern Idaho. They were selling drugs and involved in illegal gun smuggling which was what the federal informant had fingered Weaver for to begin with. Oh, and the fact that Weaver had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest in multiple states which was just another reason why the FBI was after him.

They had left the compound before the final assault. There were no survivors of the final assault.
