I'm just curious when it was, exactly that being successful became a negative thing in this country, something that needs to be punished. Mediocrity is the new gold standard everybody should strive for, according to some.

I've never seen any legitimate source claiming that being successful is a negative thing. I have seen many sources that claim that being successful by taking (stealing? tah-may-toe, tah-mah-toe) from others is a negative thing. Whether Romney was actually calling the shots at Bain Capitol when they were buying up struggling companies, raiding their pension funds, and shipping jobs overseas is irrelevant to me. Romney's fortune increased by millions at the expense of American workers during that time. So his success, at least in part, is because he stole money from American workers.
