However, higher standards for education, at least I thought, should be something that everyone should strive for. That seems pretty much cut and dry that most people would agree with, with the exception of those calling socialist at every tree.

I went to an inner city school that had both IB and AP. The difference I found that the IB kids were more dedicated and motivated to learning (rather than regurgitating facts) than the AP kids. The IB kids (like me) wanted to learn for the sake of learning, not just because we had to go to school. I have no idea why people are against IB. It's rather silly to be against it.

Constitution Tourettes?

So screw the people who can't afford private schools? Gotcha, now your "agenda" is perfectly clear.

It would seem they're against it because they think it's turning out We The Taxpayers™ funded future atheists and America hating commies.

Apparently they're insecure enough to be threatened by kids learning stuff.

Yes, it is rather silly, isn't it?

Newsflash: any advanced academic institution leans left. Academia is >70% liberal. I know that your immediate reaction to this statistic is to assume that there exists a Vast And Evil Liberal Conspiracy to destroy American values, but have you ever considered the simplest, yet inconvenient, explanation?

The fact is that conservatism and honest intellectualism are highly at odds with one another. Did you expect IB science classes to follow ignorant conservative politicians and deny global warming or evolution? Did you expect IB english classes to teach conservative classics...oops, there aren't any, are there? Did you expect IB history classes to teach that the south was fighting the civil war over states' rights, not slavery, and then expel any student who questions why the exact opposite is stated in the declarations of secession?

BTW, the AP classes I took were just as liberal as my IB classes. Higher education is inherently more liberal. "And reality has a well known liberal bias"
Sci Fi Fan (btw, love your forum name/ ID)-

Yes, you are correct, most universities in America are very left tilted. Why, because the far left (not speaking of the normal Dems) use any method to get their way. Look at the Occupy movement! The amount of hate and selfishness, not to mention crime committed but bthey believe they have that right, is unbelievable!! Yet the bought media keeps trying to keep their actions positive. The left will use hateful tactics to get their way (just look at the New Atheism movement, which is a far left group). Anyone who disagrees w/ their stance is lambasted, HARD! I recommend the Ben Stein documentary, 'Expelled', to show just how bad this is w/in academia. You can watch it on Netflix.

The left media uses such vial language, and the famous ad Honomyn attack. Rarely does one see a conservative use such hateful attacks (not claiming it never happens, but very rarely). Majority of the time the left media will state a comment as fact, such as "Republicans want poor people to die" (yes, such great journalism /0. Yet, when we dig into the FACTS, one quickly realizes that conservatives actually donate more time and money than the left, by A LOT! Or, the FACT that all inner cities ran by the left are failing. Living is horrible, crime rates are atrocious, drop out is extremely high, and so on.

We also KNOW that children will believe what ever they are taught. One can truly change the mindset of a nation to ones will by controlling the curriculum going into the minds of our youth! This is FACT! Also FACT is the Hitler dreamt of a centrally ran education system, for the obvious reasons (which have already been stated). No one wants to admit that they have been brainwashed, that their thought & ideas have been forced upon them, but this is EXACTLY what are schools are doing- both public and IB (though IB is far worse)! Another FACT is that the more control the Federal govmt steals from public education, the worse our schools become. We keep dropping like a bullet in all areas of education! Our children are less and less prepared, yet they have more and more money & technology at their disposal. Critical thinking dictates that the only variable is the federal govmt which is the problem!

A book that all should read, which can be gotten for free online, is the deliberate dumbing down of America. A must read for those honest enough to examine and search for the truth, regardless where that truth leads!

So we're back to the Left is brainwashing the youth of America? Or is it the Nazis this week? You people really need to let everyone know who it is that's corrupting our youth.

Here's an idea: teach your child to think for herself!!

How hard is it? Raise your child to be smart and assertive and to be strong in her own beliefs and you won't have to worry about the Commies OR the Tea Baggers or whomever it is that's keeping you awake at night.

I'd be embarrassed to pieces to say I had a child who didn't question and challenge and who believed everything they were told. Sweet mercy that's a depressing thought. No wonder y'all are running scared if you aren't raising smart, independent children. Gah, this thread just got too depressing to read. Again.

You are absolutely correct, education is a states issue and the federal government needs to get their noses out of it. It should have handled and funded by the states, and by the localities the schools reside.
