I have never understood how the Democrats could ever get the black vote, except they don't really see the history. Quite frankly, this may be the best video on Youtube. You can't successfully argue against historic facts. Unbelievably well done. Make sure you watch to the end.
The creator of this Documentary will surprise you too.

WHAT??? It was the Christians that were the abolitionists and worked on getting slavery stopped in the first place in America.
Chrisitian abolitionist were a small segment of 19th century Christians. Most Christians in the 19th century were perfectly fine with slavery and used the Bible to justify it. You know the whole cursed descendants of Ham thing?
I would say that you should be ashamed for posting this, but you would need to have it to begin with.
The Republicans and Democrats from years ago have nearly no resemblance to the parties today. It's also funny that your most recent example was from 56 years ago. Also, posting things that Republicans did has not connection to what Democrats did.
The Democrats are not ultra-Liberal and definitely not Marxist. I highly doubt you could even give an accurate description of Marxism by yourself.
The current Republican party has moved so far to the right that they are now radicals and Democrats are now mostly moderates. Although the gap may still be the same, because Republicans are so extreme it does not mean that Democrats are.
You must be young to believe that democrats are moderates.. JFK was a democrat and the party was for the WORKING MAN then. "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Dems are marxists and socialists today.
Well, this thread has it all. The history that's of no relevance to modern voting, the tarring of southerners as universally and uniquely racist, the mention of Senator Byrd...it's like one thread for all of the silliness. Here's a simple fact. Next week, the GOP is going to hold their convention, and it will include people who insist on saying racist things (seriously, you're giving time to Donald Trump?). And the week after, the Dems will hold their convention, and it will feature the first black president of the US.
And the truth is, the GOP did relatively little to recruit black voters to their sides over the past few decades - although it must be said that GWB did make an attempt, and McCain likely would have as well had Hillary won the nomination. But for the past few years, the GOP has done everything in it's power to alienate black voters, from giving voice to the "democrat plantation" insult, to insisting that black people are lazy mooches who are "satisfied with food stamps", to giving voice to lunatic conspiracy theories (NBPP, birthers, Fast and Furious, Shirley Sherrod) that distract from real issues, and who insist on deceptive edits and lies in order to attack black people, specifically (Andrew Breitbart, Tucker Carlson). This is not a party that is interested in recruiting black voters, it's a party that is interested in recruiting white voters who dislike black people - and not just in the south, all over the nation.
And that's all I have to say. The democratic party isn't perfect by any means, but it is improving, while the GOP has regressed quite a bit.
You must be young to believe that democrats are moderates.. JFK was a democrat and the party was for the WORKING MAN then. "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Dems are marxists and socialists today.
I know that you do have the mental capacity to understand what a Socialist and a Marxist are. It's a nice parlor trick, though.
Chrisitian abolitionist were a small segment of 19th century Christians. Most Christians in the 19th century were perfectly fine with slavery and used the Bible to justify it. You know the whole cursed descendants of Ham thing?
If that is true then that small segment stated a landslide rolling to get rid of slavery. Isn't that how all movements start? Dr. Martin Luther King didn't have that many followers until he and his cause became well known. Started with a few Christians then more Christians joined and more then other people besides Christians. Our country was very Christian back then. Not sure how many other religions were here. How many Asians were abolitionists?
If the democratic party was still liberal, why did they control the south, advocate small government doctrine and favor traditional values? Why have demographics switched almost completely between the two parties? If anything, the OP is an indictment against conservatives, because all of the mentioned offenders were openly conservative dixiecrats.
Indeed, I fail to see how anyone could deny reality and claim that abolitionists were somehow conservatives. They were openly radical challengers of the status quo, championing a massive change to the social structure -- does this sound conservative to you? How does this fit any definition of conservatism other than "because they were the good guys, and I want conservatives to be the good guys!"
It doesn't help your case that the abolitionists heavily overlapped with early feminist and pro-welfare groups.
