Political parties are not the problem. They ARE the solution.
Why, you may ask? Because both parties are US. They are made up of nothing more than regular citizens who take the time to become involved at the precinct level, where everything begins. Just because most of us aren't willing to do that and have surrendered the precincts to activist's or paid partners, is no reason to chuck the whole thing.
The fault lies not with the party, but with we who are too lazy or too unconcerned to use the base line political process to affect the changes we'd like to see made.
People who actually give a rat's ass about the country?
What makes you think they don't? Do you know any of your neighbors who are active in their parties? I'll bet if you did, you'd have a different opinion.

It's not that people don't care about this country. It's that they have completely opposite views how it should be run. You can't get anything done if you can't agree. And these parties can't seem to agree on even the simplest things so of course the big issues won't get resolved.
