You have to protect innovation. Where is the desire to innovate when the innovation is stolen and then reengineered and sold back to you?
Than you must enforce intellectual property rights. You must also bring China to the table and encourage them to do the same. That is not what protectionism entails, and tariffs have no place in the system you propose.

Funny. I hope Obama wins it all. He won't have anyone to blame but himself.

I'd bet money he's hoping he LOSES rather than wins it. He's in over his head and lost his base. Best thing for him is an exit and a book tour.

yes we Dems have eyes, something the other side seems to forget. We sat and watched obstructionisum at 100 miles a hour. It pi$$es me off to hear the Pugs get in front a camera and blame us. They act like the mess they left can be fixed in just a short few years, not while you block everything it can't. Just remember we are watching YOU

Hard to type as I am laughing too hard. The answer...your answer...is to encourage China to give up literally billions of revenue because it is the best thing to do...for us? China cheats. China does what is in the best interests of China. The only way to compete with them is to level the field by trade tariffs. You cannot create agreements that they will simply break if it is in their best interests. You would suggest that we "talk" to them and that will solve everything. ROFLAO.

What we need is a real commitment to building jobs. The elimination of NAFTA and protection of our manufacturing base is paramount. We need to stop funneling money in to global police work and use it to build our economical infrastucture to become globally competitive again. This is not going to happen with a Republican House. They scream at protectionism and they want free trade instead of fair trade.

Let them have all three branches and when the U.S. continues to spiral downward under their leadership maybe then we can make massive changes in the way forward and completely get rid of the Republican party.
NEITHER political party represents the average American, or ANY sane American who isn't totally brainwashed. The Republicrats represent Big Business, Massive and all-controlling government, tax slavery of the working class, "Free Trade" and "Globalization" in order to rob the Middle Class and deprive them of any power to change things, and a hugely expensive military that costs us our national wealth while NOT even defending our borders.

We can crash and burn, or give a REAL alternate Party a chance. Founding Fathers and Libertarianism, anyone? Could it be any worse?

But yes, once again, a lot of hot air

It was also Clinton who lobbied for and signed the 2000 China Trade Act just in time for Bush to deal with the job sucking realities of it.

As always, it doesn't matter what a Democrat actually does.

If he or she has a "D" after their name whatever they did was automatically good.

Well I would agree with the need for more parties. I think Libertarian is a viable party. Not a party that I would vote for, but it should be a party. You will just need to convince more of your Republican buddies to vote for them.

Well almost 4 years into this Administration and thihgs have gotten worse.
This current Administration instills no confidence, nor "hope" in the people in general or business.

Apprehension is the rule of the day now.

As much as the Republicans hated Clinton, he was a fairly conservative Democrat. Also, NAFTA was started under Bush I and signed by Clinton. NAFTA was a mistake.

And what of the 2000 China Trade Act?
