It's in the news again because of Ellen Barkin's retweet:

"Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean!"

Though it's far from the first time she's tweeted hateful comments aimed at conservatives. She has a long history of posting hateful, anti-Conservative comments to Twitter. Samuel L. Jackson sent out a Tweet with essentially the same sentiment:

"Unfair S***: GOP spared by Issac! NOLA prolly f***** again. Not understanding God's Plan"

At least he had the nerve to apologize. He was always one of my favorite actors, but it's hard to watch someone who you know despises you.

But this these are just recent examples of a long history of Liberal celebrities saying the type of thing that would end your career if uttered by a Conservative, or if it was directed at minorities. Cher, Roseanne and Kathy Griffin have also recently spewed things from hate speech to outright desire that their political opponents die. And this is accepted -- these people continue to work like nothing has happened. They're impervious to the same standards that would end the career of someone on the other side. In this era where we're called to act with civility and respect, it seems that Hollywood didn't get the memo.
