How close is close enough for you? Rifle shot distance? Firebomb distance? Ground attack distance? Don't think those aren't possibilities because they certainly are.

People can fire a gun in a movie theater. Do we keep people X feet from a movie theater? This is just another strawman.

I don't support people disrupting the conventions but if they want to protest directly across the street, this is where they should be.

There was a time when any American could walk into the White House and talk to the President. Now I know times have changed, but have they changed so much we have to keep people 15 minutes or more away from a convention (either party)?

What say you? I mean, Democrats and Republicans are both going to keep registered voters, and Americans trying to express their displeasure away from both conventions. How is that American?
Started under Bush and grew. Wikipedia also has more backup info on this subject under the heading "Free Speech Zone".

This particular case I am familiar with. Molly Ivins covered it in one of her books.

United States v. Brett Bursey | Center for Constitutional Rights
Perhaps the site here should have been a little more specific.

Bursey was originally charged with trespassing, but the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled then that the airport was public property and people could not be charged with trespassing on public property. Then, the United States Attorney charged him under the federal statute .

What was the statute?

Docket Sheet: United States v. Brett A. Bursey (D.S.C., No. 03-CR-309) ("No War for Oil")

Presidential Decision Directive 62, signed by Clinton.

This is one thing that really bothers me. It hit a pinnacle during the Occupy Wall Street protests. Illegal.

Oh yeah, let's throw in violence to scare people.

Elected officials should be scared of the people.

What are you saying? That there is no possibility of violence, or that it should just be ignored?

Gotta love the extreme strawman built from imaginations of the weakminded.

Don't have a logical rebuttal...built a strawman that looks scary....don't have any fact...build a strawman that looks scary...still can't hang with the discussion....call names.

Who would guarantee that? And who would guarantee nobody ever taking advantage of that?
