"To have their votes counted, they must visit a designated government office within 10 days and bring a photo ID or sign a statement saying they cannot afford one."
What voter fraud? Oh, you mean that whopping 0.0002% they found in Wisconsin? Or maybe you're talking about that 0.0003% in Missouri? Or maybe the election shattering 0.0004% in New Jersey? None of which, by the way, would have been prevented by voter ID laws.
Tell us, BucsLose, where are all these phantom cases of voter fraud taking place, because this independent study sure couldn't find it in the United States.
Reference? Having said that individula voter fraud is hard to find especially when you have actions like the DOJ took in Florida attempting to block their voter roll purge. Here's study from the left leaning pew that estimates 24 million registered voters are either invalid or inaccurate. Granted they aren't all fraudulent but that should be a concern for everyone and apparently so since about 3/4's population supports voter ID.
Our democratic process requires an
effective system for maintaining accurate
voter registration information. Voter
registration lists are used to assign
precincts, send sample ballots, provide
polling place information, identify
and verify voters at polling places, and
determine how resources, such as paper
ballots and voting machines, are deployed
on Election Day. However, these systems
are plagued with errors and inefficiencies
that waste taxpayer dollars, undermine
voter confidence, and fuel partisan
disputes over the integrity of our elections.
Voter registration in the United States
largely reflects its 19th-century origins
and has not kept pace with advancing
technology and a mobile society. States’
systems must be brought into the 21st
century to be more accurate, cost-effective,
and efficient.
Research commissioned by the Pew Center
on the States highlights the extent of the
challenge:
Approximately 24 million—one of
every eight—voter registrations in the
United States are no longer valid or
are significantly inaccurate.
More than 1.8 million deceased
individuals are listed as voters.
Approximately 2.75 million people
have registrations in more than one
state.
Or end up changing their ways and following someone like Jeb Bush who has just RAILED against the GOP for their current direction in politics. If the GOP platform began to go back towards where Jeb Bush stands, then I might end up voting R again in many cases.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Argue with SCOTUS.
These ID's are being given out by every state that has implemented this law. Prior to these laws they were given out for a fee, that has changed if you need it to vote. The PA law is similar and you have to sign a paper stating you have no other form of valid ID. This is to insure people are not abusing the system to get a free ID if they don't need one. The bottom line is if you need an ID to vote you can get it for free.

Read the report. Most of the "fraud" you're talking about are clerical errors or omissions on registration forms; or names of deceased voters or those who have moved and haven't been removed from the rolls. None of which is actual fraud because they don't show up to vote.
Voter fraud in this country is a myth perpetrated by politicians for political reasons. Nothing more and nothing less. The amount of the population you claim want voter ID laws have been suckered by these same politicians running around like their hair is on fire, screaming about a problem that is nonexistent. Which pretty much sums up the entire GOP platform, now that I think of it.

Florida has a bloated and inaccurate list of 180K potentially illegally registered voters , they whittled that down to a mere 2,600 people. Before the DOJ's action stopped their purge about 100 people were removed from the rolls. Half of them voted and even more important half of those hundred people were from a single county. If we were to extrapolate even those minute numbers over Florida's entire population it could easily swing the 2000 election.
The integrity of our voting system should be unquestioned and many people are questioning it hence the reason for the overwhelming support for voter ID laws.

So the argument that "some people are so poor they can't afford it" goes away.

We need to ensure the integrity of our voting system so that it isn't as porous as our borders are.
