German Commentators on Merkel Visit to China and Human Rights Issues - SPIEGEL ONLINE

China Offers Cautious Support for Europe - WSJ.com

Why is our relationship in terms of trade and diplomacy so hostile towards China? Why is China flattering Germany and not the U.S ?

Why do our politicians always take about trade wars if China is concerned?

Why can't we prosper through free trade with China like Germany is?

Perhaps Germany has learned the foolishness of attempting to remake the world in its own image, a lesson America has yet to learn despite much blood and $$$ invested in the subject.

You really think China engages in fair trade?

It's a two way street. Politicians on both sides love to pander, however to portray China as the innocent victim of US commentary.....that's an extremely ill-informed position.

P.S. You do know that if you held this opinion about China and posted it to a website there it would be taken down and you'd face repercussions? Please acknowledge this.

Under some interpretations of free trade theory/comparative advantage, there is no such thing as "fair" or "unfair" trade. "Dumping" - selling imports below-cost - is obviously an economic boon for consumers of those products in the country where the products are "dumped."

We had wonderful relations with China during the Bush/Clinton/Bush years when American corporations were moving our jobs over there and propping up that Communist regime. Heck, do you remember who our first Ambassador to Red China was, the guy who laid out the policies we've followed up until now? (Hint: It was former CIA Director and Congresscritter G.H.W. Bush). Need military grade computers? We'll sell 'em to you! Need us to restrict our own mining efforts to benefit you? We'll do it! Wanta give us money to campaign with? Thank you! That's the China policy under the GOP!

Now, we have a President who doesn't automatically sell our nation's soul for one more dollar's corporate profit, a President who has COMPLETELY SHIFTED our foreign policy goals from the Middle East (and supporting the House of Saud) to containing Chinese expansionism. It's the 21st century version of Truman's containment policy which ultimately led to the fall of the Soviet Union and he's engaging them on every front: Politically, militarily, economically.

And, we now have Mitt Romney promising to undo that and return to the good ol' days of confronting Russia and spending American lives to "solve" the Middle East problems!

But, you'd prefer that we kow-tow to the Chinese? That's exactly the position liberal Democrats took in relation to the Soviet Union, a position the GOP eschewed and fought against. Remember how they preached against appeasing the Soviet Union? Now, you're suggesting we appease Red China?

China has stolen american jobs through low wages, stolen technology wether it is miitary or product wise. Why should America have good status with China, when they have taken so much ? What has Germany lost,I would wager not much .Btw, two of those links only work unless you are a member ,at least for me.

Because they can just get rich under our umbrella of protection while we struggle with debt. Who won the war again?

We get along fine with china or haven't you been shopping lately?

More than half the machines the company i work for goes to china. That ponders my mind since the Chinese tend to copy everything. At times we get back machines they tried to reverse engineer too LOL.
I know what i am talking about since it is a 2 man operation. We do it all from make parts, wire the circuits and ship to red commie china.

We have a 3rd party salesman who goes to china all the time but lives in NH USA.....

And the Chinese engineers have come out here a few times.

most of the objections i hear about china are directed at its govt. never made sense to me, china has the best run govt in the developing world, bar none. i find the anti-china rhetoric in US politics unusual, don't know what to make of it. i know the chinese miss george bush a lot, he was a good president for china and east/southeast asia in general. prolly not going to see such an honorable man in charge of that country for a long time tho, the political scene has been taken over by children who dont understan the world.
