Although I was not alive then, all I have read, heard and studied point toward Eisenhower being the best..... a true American hero all around and great president and man

If civil rights had been around then, the 50's would be the greatest decade ever and his mostly centrist policies played a big role

Aside from the distortions George Will injects into the history record, and some convenient selective memories, his characterization of Kennedy as a "dove" is quite accurate I think ... though unlike Will, I find that to have been an extremely good thing, and so do the historians that understand what might likely have happened had Kennedy acted upon the advice he ultimately rejected.

And this is not based on some newspaper man's opinions ... but on real historical information, including actual audio recordings of Kennedy and advisors in the Oval Office, along with declassified information from both sides. (Some of it right here: The Cuban Missile Crisis - HPOL | WyzAnt Tutoring )

You see, regardless of the strategic nuclear advantage enjoyed by the US over the USSR at that point in time to which Will accurately refers, he doesn't explain that our advantage reflected redundancy, and that the USSR still had the capability to inflict devastation upon the US and Europe. Cuba was the USSR's tactical ploy to eliminate the US strategic advantage, by having a first strike offensive capability from Cuba, which would have placed every major city in the US within instantaneous striking distance, allowing the Soviets to devastate the nation before we could even launch a response. With the threat of decapitation in a first strike capability of that magnitude, the USSR would have been totally in the driver's seat, and that Berlin Wall would have come down long before Hollywood Ronnie ever entered the scene many years later, only not in the west's preferred manner.

Although at the time, it was unknown as to whether or not and how many of those Cuban missiles were operational, and whether or not the Soviets would launch them in a response to military strikes, we now know from archival intelligence released decades later that they were operational and that ground commanders had in fact been given orders to launch them in response.

Only a complete lunatic could be critical of Kennedy's decisions and handling of the crisis, given what we know today. And that pretty much sums up the mentality at the pentagon and the people surrounding Kennedy at the time .... psychopathic lunatics.

To put all into perspective, we have the historical records called the "Northwoods Documents" which were plans approved by the joint chiefs, and presented to President Kennedy calling for false flag terrorist acts, to include attacks on US Cities, Civil aviation, and even the sinking of a US Naval vessel to be blamed on Cuba to justify an invasion. Thankfully, JFK was not George Bush or Barack Obama, and he flatly rejected the Pentagon and CIA killing their own citizens. Then, of course we have General Curtis LeMay, a member of the Joint Chiefs, and in Command of the US Air Force who was a staunch advocate of launching a full scale nuclear first strike against the USSR even before the Cuban missile crisis, which was war gamed, and Gen. LeMay concluded that we could defeat the Soviet Union in a nuclear war, while suffering only 30-50 Million casualties. Only 30 to 50 Million US citizens dead? ONLY 30 Million? Well, what were we waiting for? This maniac thought we should instigate a war that would leave 200 to 300 Million dead on both sides, making him perhaps the most deadly wannabe psychopathic murderer in the history of humanity!!!

This is what Kennedy had to contend with .... he had the Soviets on one side, and Satan's spawn of blood lust psychopaths on the other. The fact that Castro turned to the Soviets as his only alternative to stop a US invasion came from non-stop covert military operations and the CIA's repeated attempts to kill him and invade Cuba. That's the reality. The Pentagon and CIA, left unchecked by Kennedy's cooler head, and non-psychopathic mentality, would have surely resulted in the instigation of Nuclear World War III.

From the looks of things today, we could use another JFK right about now, before the current gaggle of psychopaths are able to get their long desired Nuclear War. Unfortunately, we have either Obama or Romney ... so we might want to pucker up and bend over, in preparation for kissing our rear ends goodbye.
