It amazes me to no end how nobody seems willing to challenge this double-standard. If women don't have the same requirement to register for the draft, why should they have the same opportunity as men to enlist?
IMO, it's time to either require everyone to register(not just men) or do away with selective service, altogether.

I don't really see how something could be gained by not allowing women to enlist. Lots of people do not consider it an "opportunity" to be able to enlist in the military. Both my husband and myself were active duty military, neither one drafted. Our son, who functions mentally like a 4 year old is registered as required. I suppose at some point, they may require everyone to register since it would help them keep better track of even more people.
So, is the argument that you want women to have to register for selective service or you don't want them to be able to enlist in the military?
Well the dirty little secret is that in many of these jobs including fire and police, women just can't make it physically.
A study was done years back by a female officer intending to show women just as capable. Along the course of her study she reversed her position due to overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
She found that the top ten percent physically rated near the bottom ten percent for men.
I'll see if I can find that paper again and post a link.
Ever wonder why women don't directly compete with most men s sports? There are only a few sports where the physical differences don't matter.

...Here come the emotional responses!
I couldn't agree more. It never ceases to amaze me how the feminists have no problem demanding equal rights but not equal obligations.

Link?
Also, not everyone in the military is doing "physical" work, so your point is moot.

Using this logic, we should base selective service on physical ability and not sex.

You need a link to know that men are typically physically stronger than women? Really?
That's not to say that men are smart, more valuable, cooler, etc. But let's be honest about something we all know: Men and women are NOT the same.
