just this past late JULY...the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED senate passed the extension of the bush tax cuts for those making under 250k....with 51 votes
mean while the dumbocrats havent passed a BUDGET in 4 years
the traditional budget process (which is younger than I am) has pretty much been bypassed. A decrease in partisanship and increase in rigor would probably help, but they apparently come together.
because that was not the vote..it was a vote on closure...not a bill vote....
civics 101
Semantic sidestep. Everyone that voted in favor of cloture was on record for supporting the DREAM Act. If they had been allowed to vote on the bill, there would have been at least 55 votes in favor of it. The fact that they even needed to take this step is why "Democrats controlled Congress" is a weak & flawed argument.
This is an odd understanding of the Senate Process.
Perhaps you should examine Rules XXII, VIII, VII. I'm certain no one believes a simple majority gets ANYTHING major through the Senate, well, you're exception of course.
In the meantime, and back on topic - Democrats had a 60 seat majority from September 24, 2009 thru February 4, 2010. 4 months; not 2 years
It is not what you or I believe, it's what is stated in the rules of the Senate and the results of voting
Whether you choose to believe it or not, lots of legislation got passed with 50 or more votes. Can't help you if you choose not to believe stated facts. But go on, just close your eyes real tight and wish it were so, I'm sure it will be true then. Or better yet, just simply agree with a bunch of others who say this on the Internet, and it will be so.
Is Obama such a pathetic leader that he can only get things done with a super majority in both houses? We don't need a "leader" like that!

Maybe they should just close their eyes tightly and wish 60 votes were the minimum needed, or just throw a tantrum and roll on the floor until they get their way.
OK - they lost their 60 seat majority - and replaced it with a 59 seat majority. That stopped Obama and the Dems from doing what they wanted?
If anything stopped the Dems it was public pressure and accountability towards the elected officials - which is how government should work in America.
What apparently is the hidden agenda is the "60 is the minimum" crowd in their echo chamber is they want to get what Obama wants with absolutely no opposition, compromise, or appeasement. Which is not really what a democracy is supposed to be about.

Alternative conclusion, maybe enough Senators even (gasp) Democrats thought the bill was a bad idea. Did every Democrat vote the same way on every bill introduced?
