Black people don't choose to be black, but you choose to put a certain tattoo on your body... not to mention, race doesn't express a person's beliefs the way a tattoo might. Hence the reason race is a protected class, while "tattoo status" is not.

I'm pretty heavily tattooed myself, and have specifically chosen to put them in easily-hidden places to avoid employment issues. Back when I had my nose pierced, one potential employer (just a part-time video store job in college) said he would hire me "if not for that piercing." I started to say "I can remove it," but decided he probably wasn't somebody I'd want as a boss anyway.

And that's the key. If you're in situations where your speech might get a result you don't want, don't put your speech where it can be seen by all. It's your body but don't be surprised when folks don't want to be around it.

If you can't see the difference, you might be militant and enjoy going around causing trouble.
