"Corporatist collectivist" would be terrible misnomer. He has indeed co-opted the Wall Street donors necessary to advance his causes, but he is both terribly schooled and completely unconcerned about capitalism. He is simply interested in advancing statism in a way that the academics and the media will cheer him on.

That being said, he is not a very competent statist because it only takes a handful of defectors in academia and the media to unravel his stability and self-image. Not exactly the strong, transformational leader the left was counting on.

But, unfortunately, they completely oblige and enable him.
