Why is food stamps not limited to basic items, like chicken, bread, and milk?
Why do they allow food stamps to be used to purchase stuff like lobsters?
How do you feel about someone in front of you at the cash register purchasing a shopping cart full of expensive items like lobsters, expensive seafood, premium steaks, etc. with food stamps?

Well, I have never seen a food stamp user purchasing such items as lobsters, etc. Seems like it is always soda pop, potato chips and other wholesome foods.
If I were on food stamps, with the limited dollar value, I would try to get as much food as possible. Here in Texas an eligible single individual gets $200 per month in food stamps (SNAP, it is called). If said individual wishes to use his or her $200 to buy a couple of lobsters, prime rib and such, it is their affair.
Probably because politicians like being re-elected and therefore won't do anything to jeopardize getting votes. Politicians who mess with food stamps, Medicare, etc tend to get nailed to a cross by the masses.
Why is it your business or anyone else's what a person chooses to consume? If they spend more on these items they will run short on their funds and the program will not give them more than allotted. My issue is more with the junk food choices that the benefit will cover, not the gourmet choices. What makes you think that a lobster is not nutritious?
Who goes to the grocery store often enough to see Food Stamp recipients buying lobsters? That would be so unbelievably rare that anyone claiming to have seen it would lose all credibility immediately upon claiming to have seen it. It's right up there with a Bigfoot sighting.
Besides, i'm not Gladys Kravitz....i don't look in other peoples grocery baskets and moreover, i don't pay attention to how people pay for their groceries. I mind my own business and worry about my own groceries and method of payment. People pay with EBT cards nowadays anyway, so how would i know one way or the other?
But then, i'm the typical male. I'm already angry that i had to go in the grocery store in the first place and so i'm far too frustrated while standing in line waiting to pay attention to other people. I'd rather watch my grass grow (and i don't have any grass).
yes. People apply for FS, are approved by gov. employees, get an allotted amount per month based on their income and the number of ppl in the hh. What food items they purchase is none of my concern.
The concern here is like all welfare programs, it suppose to be "temporary" assistant. Now, welfare is a permanent solution for a lot of people. Why leave welfare when you get free food, free health care, free housing, free day care for children, etc.

They (two ladies) were at the seafood section. One was screaming to the other, "you're getting two more lobsters? I thought we have enough." So, coincidentally, 10 minutes, they were right in front of me at the cash register and I just happened to see them purchasing with food stamp card.
No, not as rare as bigfoot sightings.
