After all - their tagline used to be "television for women" - and they still do aim for a female target audience.
Why is there no "television for men"?
Also, why do many of Lifetime's movies seem to portray women as crime victims?
Isn't that a negative portrayal of women - and wouldn't it be better to broadcast programs that present women as strong, capable, and independent?
Spike is prominently advertised as television for men. G4 less so, but shares a lot of the same programming ethos.
The latter portion of your post I can't speak to because I would rather slam my foot* in a car door than watch Lifetime television (And I am a liberal, and consider myself feminist, but what they're pushing = tripe)
*Foot was not the first body part I listed before editing, FYI.
Much of the network's programming certainly depicts negative stereotypes of males. No channel for men!!!! What are all those football/golf/NASCAR/outdoor life/speed/sports channels suppose to be if not channels geared to mostly male viewers?
What would a channel for men look like I wonder? Porn...sports...porn...someone acting badass...I'm really not sure what men would want to see.

Lifetime is moving away from those women victim stories and going more towards true crime movies.
I enjoyed Fatal Honeymoon, an Officer & a Murder, & I'm looking forward to the Karlina White story.
Although I wish they weren't remaking Steel Maganolis...don't know if I'll watch that
